I have been asked a couple of times to demonstrate how to get a porky bass sound for genres around metal, hardcore and punk.
This week’s video blog deals with just this. In short, it is about dividing the sound into two sections that on the one hand take care of the lower frequencies for weight, and on the other hand the higher frequencies that take care of the attack and rhythm. If you make this division already during the recording, it can be much easier when you then mix. See the video below for more details and examples.
